Scar camouflage
Explanation: Scar camouflage also called micropigmentation, is a needle and pigment process that blends scars into the surrounding natural skin using ink and pigments. This technique is used to address surgical scars, burns, accidental scars, self-injury, stretch marks, and other skin discolorations and imperfections. In addition to color matching to your natural skin tone, this treatment also has the ability in some cases to break up and soften scar tissue.
Process: After you share your medical history with me and send photos, I will assess if scar camouflage is an option. If it seems likely, we will schedule an in-person appointment where I will examine your skin condition and scar quality – if all is as expected, we will begin your first camouflage treatment. Areas where there is pigment loss (hypopigmentation) are generally amenable to color correction (unless your own skin is so pale that ink pigment cannot be mixed to your degree of lightness), whereas areas that have become darker than the healthy surrounding skin (hyperpigmentation) are less likely to benefit from camouflage tattooing. Please note that multiple visits are often necessary with this technique so that the color can be slowly layered over time with the goal of achieving a natural final effect.
